The String Bass

The String Bass, also called the Double Bass, Upright Bass, Upright Bass, Contrabass, or Bass violin, is the largest, lowest pitched member of the violin consort consisting of a non-fretted fingerboard and four strings tuned in perfect fourths which contrasts the rest of the violin consort which are tuned in fifths. The string bass is usually played with a bow, but at times may be plucked using a technique called pizzacatto.
